In previous reports, foreign media had mentioned that Apple asked TSMC to produce chips, and shipped 80 million A14 processors on the iPhone 12 and iPad Air to them this year. However, foreign media also said in the report that TSMC has the most this year. It can manufacture 74 million A14 processors for Apple, and the unfinished part will be postponed to next year.
It is worth noting that TSMC has currently purchased 35 EUV equipment, accounting for more than half of ASML’s production, and the total purchases will exceed 50 by the end of 2021.
There is still close to a month before the end of this year. It is still difficult to determine how many A14 processors TSMC will supply for Apple. However, foreign media gave the latest news on the shipments in the fourth quarter.
In the latest report, foreign media said that the foundry contract signed by TSMC and Apple will ship 150,000 wafers of A14 processors to Apple in the fourth quarter of this year.
The Apple A14 processor and the Kirin 9000 processor equipped with the Huawei Mate 40 series use TSMC’s 5nm process. The Kirin 9000 integrates more than 15 billion transistors, and Apple’s A14 integrates 11.8 billion transistors.
For Huawei’s Kirin 9000, chip industry insiders have previously revealed that after TSMC stopped its foundry, Huawei had a total of 22,000 wafers of Kirin 9000 processors, and each wafer had about 400 good products.
With reference to the Kirin 9000, TSMC shipped 150,000 wafers of A14 processors for Apple in the fourth quarter, and the shipment volume was about 60 million. But considering that Apple A14 does not integrate 5G baseband, the number of transistors is also lower than Kirin 9000, so there is a high probability that it will be higher than 60 million.
