Diodes Company’s bidirectional potential converter connects SD 3.0 memory and low-voltage processing hardware in series

[Plano, Texas, USA, November 18, 2020]Diodes Corporation (Nasdaq: DIOD) today announced the release of PI4ULS3V4857, a bidirectional potential converter compliant with SD 3.0 standards, suitable for communication, consumer and computing system product applications, including smart phones , Laptop, SD/MicroSD card reader, wireless network access point and 5G FemtoCell (femto cellular base station).

PI4ULS3V4857 can convert 1.2V to 1.8V host side voltage into 1.8V or 3.0V memory card voltage signal, or reverse conversion. In this way, the SD 3.0 memory card can be used with the latest low-voltage microprocessors, SoCs and ASICs, and its transmission time is much shorter than other data storage solutions.

PI4ULS3V4857 has a frequency of 208MHz, which can support the fastest SD card interface, which is SD 3.0 SDR104. This 6-bit device is also suitable for SDR50 (100MHz), SDR25 (50MHz), DDR50 (50MHz) and SDR12 (25MHz) operation. Backward compatibility means that it can also handle the old SD 2.0 high speed (50MHz) and default speed (25MHz) modes.

There is no need to use an external potential converter, which can greatly save board space. The built-in 100mA LDO regulator and electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter help to further reduce the number of system components and limit the bill of materials cost. The converter device also incorporates an 8kV electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection device to ensure long-term operation.

PI4ULS3V4857 is currently available in a small size 20-ball WLCSP package.
